F.A.Q.

If you’re exploring holistic counselling for trauma, shame, nervous system regulation, or emotional healing, you may have questions about the process, what to expect, and how this approach can support you.

This FAQ section is designed to provide clear, trauma-informed guidance to help you feel safe and informed as you begin your healing journey. Whether you're curious about somatic therapy, nervous system regulation techniques, inner child work, or mindfulness-based approaches, you'll find answers to the most common questions here.

If you don’t see your question answered below, feel free to reach out.

Q: What makes holistic counselling different from traditional counselling? A: Holistic counselling goes beyond simply talking through your thoughts and feelings. While traditional counselling often focuses on cognitive and emotional aspects, holistic counselling integrates mind, body, and spirit for a more comprehensive approach to healing. In my practice, I combine somatic and embodied processing techniques, which help you connect with your body’s sensations and emotions. This approach allows you to release stored trauma and tension, bringing awareness to how experiences are held in the body. I also incorporate nervous system regulation practices, supporting you in calming and balancing your system, which is essential for long-term healing. Holistic counselling addresses the whole person—mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual—by fostering integration, self-awareness, and deep healing that extends beyond the mind. It's about restoring balance in your life and creating sustainable change from within.

Q: What does a holistic counselling session with you look like? A: A session with me is centred on creating a compassionate, non-judgmental space where you can feel truly heard, safe, and supported. Our work together will be guided by your unique needs, and I will always move at a pace that feels right for you. At the start of our sessions, I may ask, "How would you like to use this space today?" or "What do you feel would be most helpful?" This is your time, and my role is to support you in the way that feels most meaningful to you. Rather than following a rigid structure, our sessions will evolve based on what you need in the moment—whether that’s exploring emotions, making sense of your experiences, or simply having a space to express yourself without judgment. If it feels right for you, we can also explore ways to gently reconnect with your body and inner experiences, helping you build a deeper sense of awareness and safety. Above all, my goal is to meet you where you are and support you in a way that feels nourishing, empowering, and aligned with your journey.

Q: How can a holistic approach support my healing and growth? A: holistic approach looks at you as a whole—mind, body, and emotions—rather than just focusing on a single issue or symptom. Instead of only talking through challenges, we also explore how your experiences are held in your body, how your nervous system responds to stress, and how you can reconnect with your inner wisdom. This can be especially helpful if you feel stuck in repetitive patterns, struggle with emotions that feel overwhelming or disconnected, or want to build a deeper sense of self-awareness and balance. By integrating different tools—such as body awareness, mindfulness, and creative exploration—we tailor our work to what feels most supportive for you. The goal isn’t just to “fix” something but to help you feel more connected, empowered, and at home in yourself.

Q: How often should I have sessions? A: I always recommend starting with weekly sessions, as this helps build momentum and creates a steady space for reflection, processing, and growth. Regular sessions provide the best foundation for meaningful change and allow us to establish a strong therapeutic relationship. That said, therapy is a personal journey, and the frequency can be adjusted to suit your needs. Some people prefer fortnightly sessions, especially if they are nearing the end of their journey or returning after previous work together. If you're unsure, we can discuss what feels right for you and adjust as we go.

Q: How many sessions should I attend? A: The number of sessions needed can vary depending on your individual goals, the nature of the issues you're working through, and how you’re responding to the process. Some people begin to feel significant shifts after just a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term support as they work through deeper layers of healing. Holistic counselling is tailored to your pace, and we’ll regularly assess your progress together. The goal is to create sustainable change, and we’ll adapt the frequency and duration of sessions to meet your needs as you move through your healing journey.

Q: How do I know if holistic counselling is right for me? A: If you're seeking a more integrative approach to healing—one that addresses not just your thoughts but also your body—holistic counselling might be a great fit. This approach is particularly beneficial if you’ve felt stuck or disconnected, if you’ve experienced trauma, or if you want to explore healing beyond traditional talk therapy. We’ll work together to see if this approach aligns with your needs and goals, and tailor the sessions to support your unique journey.
